Yes, Mark Hamill has stated that it’s “possible” that Luke may turn to the Dark side of the force, and that he didn’t like the direction that Rian Johnson was taking his character.
Mark Hamill has talked a lot recently above Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and after confirming that he thought that Han Solo’s death could have had more emotional weight he has confirmed in an interview with ABC News that he was shocked when reading the script and that he didn’t agree with the way Rian Johnson, the director for The Last Jedi was taking the character.
Having said that, in typical Mark fashion, he took it on the chin, and said he would “get his head around it”, so we can assume Mark got aligned with Rian’s vision and brought that story to life.

“There’s a difference between teaser and a trailer. A teaser is supposed to show you dynamic images that heighten your awareness and make you want to see the trailer, but avoid all story points if at all possible. [But] I think that’s the only story point that’s in the teaser, which is Luke saying it’s time for the Jedi to end… It was as shocking to me to read what Rian Johnson had written as I’m sure it will be for the audience.”
Now, we aren’t saying that Luke Skywalker will turn to the Dark side.
it’s just that it’s possible – which makes me shiver. The full interview with ABC news is here:
Whatever happens in the film, one of the most impressive things about the Star Wars saga is how the actors can constantly get put up in interviews and give next to nothing away.
Will Luke turn to the dark side? Or is he just a bit more balanced now? We think and hope the latter.
