For a very long time now we have been waiting on news for Syfy’s television series Krypton. Krypon is set two generations before the big red caped crusader.
As you can probably guess from the title, the series is set on Krypton around the time that the House of El was established on Krypton by Superman’s grandfather.
Excitingly the trailer has finally launched and is below:
We can see from the trailer that the series seems to be aligned with DC’s current movie series, although it’s likely not to correlate in any significant way given that the Superman movies starring Henry Cavill and Krypton are set two generations apart. However, the symbols for example on the clothes are the same.
This conflicts with Marvels approach on Netflix series where the movies and TV series are very separate beasts.
Having said that, I would think that’s a good thing and something fans cry out for. It makes all the difference to have a consistent universe, and is likely to benefit the TV series and movies by drawing fans from both to each other.
The synopsis provided to Digital Fox is below:
Syfy’s Krypton, the much-anticipated Superman prequel set two generations before the destruction of the legendary Man of Steel’s home planet, will follow Superman’s grandfather — whose House of El was ostracized and shamed — as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos.
Given that the sequence at the start of Man of Steel based on Krypton was our favourite part of the film (which, lets be honest isn’t hard) it makes this series exciting. Krypton hasn’t really been fully explored ever on the big screens.
