Pokken Tournament

If you’ve been hoping for a new Pokemon game on the Switch, prepare to be disappointed.

Though there were plenty of rumours circulating about the existence of Pokemon Stars, a full-fledged Pokemon game on the Switch, Nintendo dashed hopes of finding out anything about the elusive game during their direct presentation for June. In it, we got a full release schedule for the rest of 2017. However, notably missing is any mention of Stars, which will only add fuel to the rampant speculation.

That doesn’t mean they haven’t given us anything. In fact, we’re getting three new Pokemon games this year, and one is even for the Switch. The only problem is they’re not the ones we’ve been waiting for.

Pokken Tournament DX will be released for the Switch on September 22 while updated versions of Pokemon Gold and Silver will land on the 3DS on the same day. Both games will have new features and content (such as extra characters for Pokken and compatibility with the Pokemon Bank App for Gold and Silver), but nothing else surprising.

Last up for 2017 are Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon for 3DS. While Nintendo isn’t exactly shy about re-releasing its games, putting back out a title that only dropped at the end of 2016 is a bit much, even for them.

However, these new titles are described as ‘alternate stories’. They’re still set within the Alola region but diverge heavily from the narrative of the original games. Also, they introduce new Pokemon and at the end of the day, that’s the only thing we really care about.

So, what do you think? Excited for the new games or tired of all the remakes. Let us know in the comments below.
