Goku’s New Transformation in Episode 129 of Dragon Ball Super Was His Greatest Moment Ever
HOLY CRAP… were the first words that came to mind when I saw Dragon Ball Super episode 129. This was by far the most anticipated and hyped episode of the series in a long, long time. Maybe even in the whole DBS series altogether given the fact that the preview for it was so awesome. The moment I am indeed talking about is that Son Goku has finally mastering his Ultra Instinct form.
I have so much to talk about in this episode I could write a novel. But the editors don’t have a week to review all of that, so I’m going to stick to the main point of discussion. (This is the editors speaking: Thanks Raees). And that is Goku’s final sequence of episode 129.
The first half of the episode was pretty decent, but nothing we haven’t seen before. Goku used Ultra Instinct one more time and went toe to toe with Jiren once again. And I am totally going to look over the fact that some of the scenes in episode 129 were copied and pasted straight from when the two warriors first clashed. But that was kind of cheap though…
Anyway, what absolutely blew my mind was that last sequence. I mean it was on a totally different level to what we expected or anything we have ever got from DBS in the past. So when I turned to the internet to express my joy after seeing episode, I found that fans were debating a certain topic.
“Was this the greatest Goku Moment in DBS or even the whole franchise itself…?”
Goku’s Epic Moments From the Past
And this got me quiet intrigued, compelling me to go back and look at all the other great moments our hero has had over the years. What was the greatest Goku moment from the 4 Dragon Ball series? That being Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT and Dragon Ball Super. And yes I know GT is not at all canon but for the sake of argument, and that I needed a fourth aspect just to sound cool, I’m going to use it.
Original Dragon Ball
So let’s take a quick look at the past feats of Son Goku. So in Dragon Ball, the popular opinion for the greatest Goku moment has to be when Goku clashed with Piccolo/King Piccolo. Before Piccolo, there wasn’t really a villain with as big of a villainous ambition. So seeing the kid Goku standing up to him was so badass to us watching as kids.
Dragon Ball Z
Going into Dragon Ball Z, this had the most epic Goku moments of our lives. Starting from when he arrived to save his friends from Vegeta and Nappa, all the way to defeating Kid Buu.
All those epic moments, yet one stands above the rest. Goku transforms into Super Saiyan for the first time. And I remember as a kid, I lost my damn mind when this happened. It was so badass I remember the exact place and time I saw it for the first time.
Dragon Ball GT
Moving on, just before our finale, we have Dragon Ball GT. Oh boy this was a weird one so I’ll keep this entry short. The best moment in GT, for me personally, was Goku Super Saiyan 4 vs Baby Vegeta.
During this fight was see Baby dominating the fight, absolutely pounding Goku into the ground. Or so we thought… Next thing we know we see Goku smiling, as if to say to Baby, “All these attacks and yet you can’t hurt me, pathetic!” It was honestly one of the few moments I liked or even remember from GT. *cough*Sorry GT lovers*cough*
Mastered Ultra Instinct
And so what I think episode 129 of Dragon Ball Super had over the previous mentioned moments was the level of epicness that it brought. The fact that Jiren fired a massive energy blast at Goku and he essentially just caught it. Plain and simple, Jiren fired a blast that he thought would end Goku and he just caught it like it was nothing. In that moment I compared it to my friend tossing me an orange and me catching it with ease. I mean it was such a dominating moment from the point of transformation that it set the tone of events for the rest of the episode.
Vegeta even recognised Goku’s power as “surpassing the Gods”, which points to one of the major story points of this arc, the mortals are surpassing the Gods. Vegeta tells the Gods of Destruction that they underestimated Goku, yet now they stand in awe of what he had just accomplished.
Too Much Awesomeness
Goku’s transformation gave off a scary vibe to them because to them, Jiren was the strongest mortal. He was the one that some of them would really struggle to defeat. And here we have Son Goku, the underestimated Sayain, beating Jiren up like it’s nothing. Let us not forget that Goku achieved this power and mastered it within 45 minutes. That is insane.
I really feel that if you combine all the past elements of Dragon Ball and all the amazing Goku moments we’ve got to experience, this was one of, if not the greatest Goku moment EVER. In terms of the level and scale of awesomeness, together with the execution of the animation and music, I can honestly say that I truly loved this moment.
Whether you love or hate Dragon Ball Super, you have to give credit where credit is due. This was AWESOME.
Let me know if you agree with me that this IS indeed Goku’s greatest moment on Twitter @raees_kariem.
