2017 has one hell of a movie line up.

It looks like 2017 is gonna be jam packed with blockbusters, and here at Digital Fox, we’re so excited we’ve stopped doing any work and now just talk about whether T2 Trainspotting will be any good. Just kidding. Kinda.

Because there are so many potentially great films and because we’re such great citizens, we’ve compiled a guide to brief you on all the exciting movies to be released in 2017. You’re welcome.

The Fate of the Furious (April)

After seven instalments, there’s a good to strong chance you’re quite sick of the street-racing franchise. However, if you’re as obsessed as ever, the eighth should be worth getting excited for.

The Fate of the Furious’ most notable difference is its absence of the late Paul Walker. But an impressive cast of Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson, Kurt Russell, Scott Eastwood and Charlize Theron set out to do Paul proud.

Alien: Covenant (May)

The team behind Alien: Covenant has already done a pretty good job getting us excited, announcing the movie will be released earlier than expected. And let’s be real: after the, shall we say, underwhelming Prometheus, this is really Fox’s last chance to redeem the Alien franchise.

Alien: Covenant tells the story of a colony ship and it’s crew, traveling to a distant region in the galaxy they believe to be uninhabited. I’ll give you a clue as to the rest: it’s habited.

The Emoji Movie (August)

Actually lolling rn. Source: Coming Soon.

Yeh, this is one of those movies where you learn everything you need to know from its title. Featuring T.J Miller, The Emoji Movie tells the story of an emoji born with multiple expressions, and his journey through a teenager’s mobile.

And while it may not crack IMDB’s top 250, I’ve chucked this movie on the 2017 list simply because it is really quite new. This is fresh, innovative. In other words: rare. In a world so dominated by mobile technology, it’s about time a film set out to capture it.

Star Wars: Episode VIII (December)

Because Star Wars.

Murder on the Orient Express (November)

Ahh, a good ol’ fashioned murder mystery. This should actually be really cool. Based on the novel by fully-fledged legend Agatha Christie, famous detective Hercule Poirot is tasked with solving a curious murder onboard the fancy train.

My bet’s on Colonel Mustard with the candlestick. Sneaky bugger.

Justice League (November)

Now how could DC possibly fuck this up? Well, probably quite easily. Everyone thought that Suicide Squad was gonna be the GOAT movie, but instead we were treated to a film that was just about as good as The Men Who Stare at Goats.

That being said, the Digital Fox crew and I are an optimistic bunch. With a cast Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Amy Adams, J.K. Simmons, Jesse Eisenberg and Willem Dafoe, and even better cast of superheroes, what could go wrong? (famous last words).

Dunkirk (July)

Christopher Nolan is one of those people who are really good at their job. If he manages to deliver again, Dunkirk should be incredible. The WW2 drama centres the British military’s evacuation of the French city of Dunkirk in 1940, one of the biggest battles during the war.

Dunkirk stars Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance, Cillian Murphy, Kenneth Branagh and Harry Styles. Yeh, the One Direction guy.

The Dark Tower (July)

The Dark Tower looks epic, mainly just coz we’re obsessed with Idris Elba. On top of Elba though, the plot of this Stephen King adaptation does seem very cool. Elba is a wondering knight, and the last hope of the fallen Mid-World. He sets out to find the Dark Tower, all the while battling his nemesis, the Man in Black, played by Mathew McConaughey. Alright alright alright alright.

Thor: Ragnarok (October)

What we know is this: After the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron, Thor, the Hulk and Doctor Strange are gonna come together to face off against intergalactic enemies both familiar and new. Exciting.

It’s also the first time New Zealand director Taika Waititi has stepped into the Marvel arena, which is reason enough to get pumped.

Oh and if he’s reading this: Marry me Chris Hemsworth. Is that too much to ask?

T2: Trainspotting (February)

After 20 years of fans anxiously waiting for word of a Trainspotting sequel, Christmas has finally come early… or late. I’m really bad at maths.

The sequel checks in on former heroin addict Mark “Rent” Renton as he reconnects with his former drug pals: Spud, Sick Boy and Begbie. It will also feature the on-screen reunion Ewan McGregor, Johnny Lee Miller, Robert Carlyle and Ewen Bremner, and is directed by the original director, Danny Boyle.

Spider-Man: Homecoming (July)

I’m not too sure why, but Spider-Man has always been one of my favourite superheroes. And even if he isn’t one of yours, you should be excited for the character’s first ever solo film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Why? Because Marvel are almost as good at their job as Christopher Nolan. And because I said so.

Rock That Body (June)

Do you like Bridesmaids? What about Death at a Funeral? Firstly, and most importantly, if you answered no to either of those films, you’re an idiot. Secondly, if you answered yes, you’ll love Rock that Body.

Starring Scarlett Johansson, Demi Moore, Kate McKinnon, Jillian Bell, Ilana Glazer and Zoe Kravitz, this R-rated comedy is about a bachelorette party that somehow results in a dead male stripper. Hot.

Wonder Woman (June)

DC haven’t been too successful in their recent movie endeavours. That being said, they’ve made a fuck tonne of money, so maybe Mr and Mrs DC are happy as Larry.

Wonder Woman is a real chance for redemption. With Gal Gadot in the lead role, and directed by Patty Jenkins, the first female to direct a studio superhero film, I think it’s time the women show the men how it’s done.

Ghost in the Shell (March)

In a reimagining of Mamoru Oshii’s iconic 1995 anime film, Scarlett Johansson assumes the starring role of a cyborg police officer. There is always a risk when recreating something so brilliant and loved, but I must admit, the trailer looks very cool. I’m getting real Blade Runner and Sin City vibes. Now wouldn’t that just be delightful?

The Wall (March)

John Cena looks out for the count. Source: YouTube.

This movie looks messed up… in a good way. Aaron Taylor-Johnson and John Cena are at the helm, acting as two American soldiers pinned back by a solitary enemy sniper.

But this isn’t your every day war film. With the soldiers in direct contact with the sniper, the film begins to take on more of a Saw vibe, and the battle a ‘game’. This is well and truly a psychological thriller. Plus, John Cena. ‘Nuff said.

Logan (March)

exciting movies to be released in 2017
Hugh’s final hoorah :(. Source: Comic Book Movie.

More than anything else, Logan will be remembered as Hugh Jackman’s final performance as Wolverine. But while the Jackman reign may be drawing to a sad close, the ninth X-Men instalment is breaking new grounds, becoming the first in the franchise to warrant an R-rating. This means that we can expect some seriously graphic stuff, with Logan’s Adamantium claws lashing everywhere, leaving nothing but blood and brilliance.

Blade Runner 2049

Mama mia, this has been a long time coming. The sequel to Ridley Scott’s 1982 classic once again revisits the life of blade runner Rick Deckard, played by our timeless crush, Harrison Ford. Besides the legendary Ford, director Denis Villeneuve actually has a very cool cast at his disposal: Ryan Gosling, Jared Leto, Robin Wright and Ana de Armas to name a few.

Is this another possible case of ‘leave our classic movies alone you annoying buttheads’? Perhaps. It could also be epic. Time will tell.

So there you have it!

Those are, in our not so humble opinion, the most exciting movies to be released in 2017. Are you as excited as we are?!
