A guide to one of the most anticipated sequels in like… a very long time – Deadpool 2.
With the success of Deadpool in 2016, it’s no surprise that a Deadpool 2 release is around the corner.
The movie literally took the tone and epicness of the comic and turned it into an even more epic movie. Deadpool became the biggest domestic hit from the X-Men franchise, so lets hope the next one is just as good if not better. Here’s the scoop on what we know so far:
The Director of Deadpool 2
It’s been confirmed that Ryan Reynolds will bring back his sexiness and comedic timing to the sequel (some people even thought he should have won an Oscar for the original performance). The same goes for screenwriters/producers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
But what about the director? Unfortunately Tim Miller, Deadpool‘s first director, has backed out during production stage and has been replaced by David Leitch. We love you Tim Miller but let’s try and give the new kid on the block a chance. Ryan Reynolds seems to really like him, and he’s really really cool so let’s listen to whatever he says.
The plot of Deadpool 2
Ok so Deadpool took the pretty standard approach of adapting the non-linear plot of the original comic. No real twists or surprises that no one fucking asked for, praise the Lord!
The film started with Wade Wilson kicking ass, and the rest of the film tales his experimental treatments to cure his cancer and winding up with powers and a hunger for revenge. All good stuff. What we can count on is that Deadpool 2 will keep the comedic tone of the first.
Who is Cable in Deadpool 2?
However with that all out of the way, it’s hard to say what the plot of Deadpool 2 will focus on. Only one thing is for certain. Cable, the muscly, grey haired, gun wielding dude will make an appearance. He’s co-starred in many of the comic books, most notably ‘Cable & Deadpool’. At this stage we don’t really know if Deadpool 2 will be adapted from this comic or if it will be a whole new story line. But based on the first Deadpool, I would not be surprised if ‘Cable and Deadpool’ was the main inspiration for Deadpool 2 (don’t quote me on that one).
Writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have stated that the plot shouldn’t get too weird or complex, but given the complex back stories of characters like Cable, anything could happen. However you can definitely expect the basics from Cable: a flat top, a bionic arm, and a history of time travel. If those aren’t the making of a great sequel then I don’t know what is.
As far as casting goes some names have been thrown around, such as Mel Gibson, Dolph Lundgren, Kiera Knightley, Stephen Lang and Jon Hamm.
What is Vanessa doing in Deadpool 2?
Considering she was the driving force behind much of the first Deadpool, she’ll probably be back for the sequel. The screen writers intend on making her more like her comic version: A shapeshifter mutant named Copycat.
The Budget and release date of Deadpool 2
Considering the cost of most super hero block busters, Deadpool’s budget was pretty small. The whole shebang was about $58 million, and the producers are looking to keep the budget pretty tight for the sequel. All that means is less heckling from studio executives who don’t know what they’re doing. Simplicity means less ways to fuck shit up. As my biological brother The Notorious B. I. G once said, “Mo Money Mo Problems.”
The release date is looking to be around early 2018.
The X-Men Universe
The fact that Deadpool only featured two X-Men characters seems to be a sign that Deadpool 2 will not expand its squad, but we do anticipate it will have connections to the rest of the X-Men universe.
So there you have it.
A summary of everything we currently know about a hopefully epic sequel. Things are looking up for Deadpool 2 and we can’t wait to find out what else the squad has in store for us. What/who do you want to see in Deadpool 2?
