If you’re a fan of Marvel movies (who isn’t?), here are 5 spoiler free things you need to know about Guardians of the Galaxy 2 that will get you absolutely pumped.

With the release of Guardians of the Galaxy 2 just a couple days ago, the hype has been pretty accurate. Yep, it’s just that good. In fact, we loved the movie so much that we even wrote a review about it (that being said we’ve reviewed some very shitty movies).

Dare I say this may be one of the best Marvel movies yet? Is that too big a statement to make? Well there are a lot of great things to say about Guardians of the Galaxy 2, but I’ll just tell you 5 things I think you really need to know.

1) Guardians of the Galaxy 2 features a cameo with Jeff Golblum

Spoiler alert. I just totally ruined the entire movie for you. But seriously, if you watch really closely than you’ll see Jeff Goldblum in the credit sequence. The movie itself was so amazing that I almost missed it, but when it happened it was a borderline spiritual experience for me.

It’s pretty hard to spot him, but we did manage to catch a glimpse of this beautiful man on the right hand side of the screen. If you want to find out more about the juicy details behind Jeff Goldblum’s cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 then click here. I won’t reveal too much but he did look pretty badass in his Thor Ragnorok clothes.

While Jeff Goldblum’s appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 was pretty brief, it does leave some pretty interesting implications about Guardians of the Galaxy 3. Hmmm, me thinks he will have a much bigger role in the next movie. Although don’t quote me on that one, its just a hunch.

2) The Guardians of the Galaxy sequel is all about family

While there is definitely a lot going on in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, it’s definitely fair to say that thematically it all comes back to family. Not like the mushy stuff you see around Christmas time though. It’s still a badass film, but all the characters have pretty complex backstories to do with their own family and past.

That’s what makes this movie super interesting. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 isn’t just some cartoony comic book movie that you watch, think to yourself “that was cool” and then forget about. The story line has a lot of depth and complexity and is super relatable.

I found myself getting super invested in all the characters and I really cared about the characters’ relationships. Everything from strong, loving bonds to relationships that have fallen apart are explored. And yeh, I got a bit emotional – don’t judge me! Guardians of the Galaxy 2 might just remind you that you have a heart… in case you’ve forgotten.

Don’t worry though, it’s not too icky and the movie doesn’t take itself too seriously. It strikes a great balance between being meaningful and fun.

3) Guardians of the Galaxy 2 has a way cooler villain, but could be cooler!

While I did like the first Guardians of the Galaxy, it’s pretty fair to say the villains were kinda meh. They were sort of one dimensional, boring, and didn’t have that much personality.

Another thing that sucked was that the villains didn’t really have any compelling goals. Too many soapy rants about taking over the galaxy and blah blah.

Well Guardians of the Galaxy 2 has definitely taken a step in the right direction, although it still isn’t perfect. I won’t give anything away but I think there are a few too many odd twists and turns. I also think the movie could have done without so many long monologues, but it’s still an improvement. Much better dynamic between villains and the Guardians.

4) The Guardians of the Galaxy sequel is visually stunning

Visually, I definitely think this movie is a serious upgrade from the first Guardians of the Galaxy. I was really blown away. The colours just pop out at you. Dare I say I think this is the most visually impressive Marvel movie to date. The neon starlight really glows from the screen and so do the space suits.

Yondu’s arrow leaves a deliciously pink trail of destruction. Gamora’s skin is very green and you can easily tell the different shades of colour apart. All the battles in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 are super vibrant with orange explosions, blue fire, and ruby lasers. It’s an action film on steroids. It’s a full on eye-gasm.

5) Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is the funniest Marvel movie ever

I know i’m just full of big claims today but once you see the movie, I doubt you’ll disagree with me. While there is a lot of uber complex, serious stuff going on, it still doesn’t take away from the movie’s witty humour.

This can definitely be credited to Drax. The first Guardians of the Galaxy established Drax as someone who takes everything literally and can’t understand sarcasm. The sequel definitely builds on this and uses Drax with great comedic effect. I don’t want to give away any punch lines but there is a part in the movie where Drax asks a question involving genitals, and he’s very serious about it (they ain’t no laughing matter).

Overall the humour is one of the greatest strengths in Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Oh, and the aliens in the start of the movie look really funny. In fact that whole introductory scene is just really weird and I couldn’t stop laughing.

So anyway, there you have it: 5 things you need to know before watching Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Hopefully I didn’t provide any spoilers. I thought it was great and I’m sure you will too.
