DC Comics are no strangers to having big stars in their big movies. We’ve seen the likes of Ben Affleck, Margot Robbie and Will Smith. And the upcoming Justice League is upholding this reputation, featuring the talented J.K Simmons as Jim Gordon, as well as many others.
The exciting news for us is, director Zack Snyder has finally gifted us a first glimpse of Simmons in the role, posting this mysterious, awesome, black and white picture on Twitter:
We all loved him as the crazed Jazz teacher who tormented budding young boys and girls looking for their big break in Whiplash.
But now J.K. Simmons will be tormenting criminals armed with a skylight and a zero tolerance for law-breaking as he plays Commissioner Jim Gordon. It’s photograph official.
The most recent actor to take on the role of Commissioner Jim Gordon was Gary Oldman. His performance was incredible, so we can’t wait to see how J.K. Simmons adds his own flair to the role.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, J.K. Simmons had this to say about the role:
“People of my generation remember Commissioner Gordon as this jolly, ineffectual Santa Claus type, and I think over the years in the comics there’s definitely much more of a badass side to him. One of the things that’s interesting to me is investigating hopefully a little bit more of that badass [side]…You’re living in a universe where it’s pretty tough to be a badass compared to somebody like Batman, but in the universe of non-superheroes I like the idea of Commissioner Gordon as a guy that can take care of himself, a guy that’s a real partner to Batman, not just a guy that turns on the bat signal and goes, ‘Help! Help, Batman!'”
The new Justice League movie starring J.K. Simmons is set to drop November 2017, so if you like movies, and like hoping that DC Comics doesn’t disappoint us again, I’m sure you’ll be pumped for this one.
